Traditional barcodes have reached a physical limit. Our system has the advantage that any further progress concerning technology further improves the color code capacity.

Todays barcode system has more and more become part of our everyday life. We find it on many goods and products, especially in supermarkets. The traditional barcode is used to uniquely identify the item it is printed on or marked with. Generally, it contains a key (e.g. a number) which can be read using a scanner. After reading and recognition, the unique key allows its identification. More information about the item can be retreived from a central database using highly networked IT systems. This system is widely used e.g. in most trade stores around the world.
Unfortunately, this kind of system assumes that there is a central database holding information as well as a functional network connection. This again assumes rather complex IT infrastructure which requires setup and maintenance. Therefore, on a global scale it is sometimes impossible to setup and maintain centralised data storage systems in order to uniquely identify items using the traditional barcode.
