Labelling of product packages usually serves multiple purposes. Firstly, the label is human readable and helps to identify the package content. Secondly, the label is machine readable which is necessary to support automated work flow systems such as checkout counters of a supermarket by querying the currrent product prize. Until today, the machine readable label is usually a barcode containing a unique product number only. This is because the code capacity is limited to a certain number of characters. With the help of this number more data about the item can be obtained from a central data base. In many cases the data base, thus additional item information is not available.
